Sonnets
Theatre Arts School
first class opened in January 2003, classes started in a village hall in
Hampshire with just 10 pupils teaching drama and singing, and in 2006 we
introduced dance classes to the mix. We
now teach over 300 pupils a week, and have 6 schools, with new schools opening
each year, our next school is in Bath opening after October half term.
Classes run at weekends or after school, and are
anything from 1 hour - 3 hours in duration. We have lots of experience in
running after school clubs for children in schools as this is how we started
out, and found that the 40:40:40 minutes split of each discipline works best
after school to keep children focused. 3 hour classes only run at the Saturday
morning school in Andover.
The Sonnets Annual Showcase has been running
since 2006, and is a highlight of the year for coaches and pupils. Look
out for the dates in July each year.
Sonnets Agency opened its doors in January 2011, after having 2 pupils in an
advert and a handful star as extra in films. We are a recognised performing arts
training provider for young performers by Spotlight Directory and our pupils
have the option to be listed in Spotlight each year.
Sonnets Theatre Arts School is not a franchise we are a family run Performing
Arts School. We work with our coaches and managers to ensure the smooth running
of our schools.
David Phaure the co-owner completed his Acting Diploma at ALRA (Academy
of Live
and Recorded Art), was signed up with an agent and was cast mainly in
Shakespeare productions and touring schools from 2000, before setting up Sonnets
drama and singing classes for children, hence the name!
Co-Owner Lisa Phaure (David's wife) has extensive business experience and
maintains all the administration of the school. Lisa has project managed
live stage events for town regeneration projects, attended by thousands and even
making the TV news. She still co-ordinates community projects in the performing
arts for young people, the last event was in February 2011 'Test Valleys Got
Talent' half term bootcamp for young performers in a local competition hosted by
the Mayor.
